Seven members of Biggar Ramblers enjoyed an interesting walk around Dumbarton and Dumbarton Rock. To supplement the information provided by the walk leader on the town’s history, another member, who was brought up in Dumbarton, was able to provide first hand knowledge of Dumbarton’s shipbuilding prowess of the 19th and 20th century. Moreover, he showed several historic photographs of the town and its prominent buildings during Dumbarton’s heyday as an industrial centre. As it was a bitterly cold day with a freezing wind the group did not linger too long to get cold. It was good to see new investment in the town, giving it a new lease of life.
